I was the system in my own business.
I started out running a speed reading training business. I was good at the work. But everything lived in my head and nothing was written down. If I stepped away, things stopped.
Then I read The Checklist Manifesto. It is not a business book. It is about how surgeons and pilots use simple checklists to prevent mistakes that cost lives. Something clicked. I built a checklist for content creation, then one for client onboarding, then one for follow-ups. The impact was immediate.
I kept going. I read E-Myth and Traction. I talked to business owners who ran good companies and asked how they actually ran them day to day. The same pattern showed up everywhere: skilled, ambitious, hardworking founders, trapped inside businesses that could not move without them.
Then a friend who ran a service business heard what I was working on. He said, “Implement it in my business.” He became my first consulting client. No pitch. He just said yes.
